Specialist Judge Spotlight – The Mechanismo!

40 years on from its original release, we’re bringing Sir Ian Livingstone’s classic Judge Dredd board game back to your tabletops this November!

We’ve made a number of changes to the game for this updated edition, but the biggest of all is the introduction of the brand new Specialist Judges expansion, and over the coming weeks we’re going to take a closer look at the different Judges you can play as.

What is the Specialist Judges expansion?

The Specialist Judges expansion is included in our new edition of Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime-Fighting in Mega-City One, and lets you choose to play as one of six unique Judges from across the history of Mega-City One.

Each has a unique ability that will change the way how you approach the game, and on the blog today we’re focusing on the mighty Mechanismo!

The Mechanismo

The Mechanismo standing on the board from Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime-Fighting in Mega-City One. In the background we can see another Judge, and Perp and Crime cards are placed around the board.

If what you’re after is the raw power to crush any Perp who crosses your path, the Mechanismo is the Specialist Judge for you!

The base strength of this Judge has been cranked up to 8, giving them a huge advantage over their (puny) fellow Judges (especially the Cadet… no offense).

However, this incredible strength does come with a catch – rolling a 6 in combat causes you to overheat and lose the fight, leaving the Perp to their nefarious deeds.

The Mechanismo standee lying on the ground beside a Perp and Crime card. A six-sided dice beneath the Perp reads 4, while the dice beneath the Mechanismo reads 6.

Beneath the Mechanismo is their ability token, which reads:
"Overheating
If you roll a 6 on any rolls in combat (including on any bonus rolls) you overheat, and lose the combat no matter what. This only applies to your rolls, not to the Perp's rolls.

Before each combat you may choose to cool: subtract 2 from your strength, but you do not lose if you roll a 6"
An overheated Mechanismo isn’t much use to anyone!

If you are worried about knocking yourself out, or feel you have enough to deal with a Perp without your mechanical might, you can choose to cool down for the combat, reducing your strength to 6 and fighting just like any other Judge.
