Adventure Presents: Accessibility
Games are for everyone, and as part of that we are committed to ensuring that as many people as possible can play our games. While this is just the start of our journey in the world of TTRPG accessibility, here are some of the ways Adventure Presents strives to be an inclusive and approachable system for all kinds of players.
The Characters
Adventure Presents characters have six stats in total, including Health. Only two of these stats change values during the game (Health & Resolve) and all of them are below 20. This makes it great for someone who struggles with large numbers and means there is very little the player has to remember in comparison to more complex TTRPGs.
The Dice
Adventure Presents uses only three standard six-sided dice (also known as d6). Six-sided dice can often be bought in many sizes and colours, so players with low vision may be able to get larger, clearer dice that they can read more easily. You also have the options of pips or written numbers so you can use a set that works best for you. Additionally, this means that Adventure Presents uses smaller numbers which can be great for players who struggle with maths or counting, as you only need to be able to count up to 18.
The Combat
Adventure Presents combat is inherently a lot more accessible than something which relies heavily on maps, grids, and movement speed. The combat in Adventure is very fluid and is done entirely through “theatre of the mind” and descriptions, which makes it very accessible for blind/low vision players as there is no map involved. The simplicity of the actions and turn system also means it could be very accessible for those with cognitive impairments or learning difficulties, as there are a small number of options available and simple action economy.
The Adventures
Adventure Presents features short and sweet adventures, taking approximately three sessions to complete. All the information you need as a GM and player are provided in the booklet. As players and a GM, you can go in with little to no prep as the booklet is full of guides, tips, and references to get you playing almost immediately. The brief nature of the adventures make it a great low-pressure TTRPG. We also include content warnings at the front of the booklet to warn you of any sensitive themes.
Fonts & Formatting
Our booklets use a sans-serif font for the main body text and has good contrast throughout. We use boxes to highlight tips or additional information in the booklet. We are working towards full screen reader compatibility with our digital assets, and will be creating print-at-home high contrast, extra-large character sheets.
Digital Assets
Individual images within the book are provided as separate digital assets for free to all players, whether or not they’ve backed the PDF edition, allowing players and GMs maximum flexibility in how they are shared.
